What’s the First VR Game You Should Buy?

If you just got your first VR Headset and you don’t know what the first game you should buy is. We’ve got you covered. There are tons of great first experiences but the games we’re about to suggest are VR must-buys! The game you should start with will be up to you but you can’t go wrong with either of these.

Who doesn’t love swinging laser swords at a bunch of blocks flying towards them while jamming out to some great tunes? Seriously though, there’s a reason why this game is as popular as it is. It’s darn good fun. It’s also a great first VR game as it doesn’t require you to get used to any locomotion and if it’s the only VR Rhythm game you ever buy… it’s one of the best. Beat Saber is a game that you will always be going back to. With tons of free tracks, it’s hard to get bored. It’s quite the workout too! There is multiplayer as well if you want to swing along with friends.

You can get your hands-on Beat Saber through Steam or the Oculus store. Just keep in mind that the PC version has an amazing modding community, while things get a little more restrictive on the Quest 2.

Originally a smash hit on Steam, the VR version stole the hearts of the VR community. If you’ve never heard of SUPERHOT VR, it’s a really cool concept. Time only moves when you move. This mechanic is loads of fun as you duck, dodge, and pause to evaluate your options. It makes you feel like an action hero straight out of the matrix. It’s also a fantastic first VR game that you should buy, especially if you appreciate a good FPS game. SUPERHOT VR approaches locomotion differently as well. As you complete objectives, the world simply moves around you in a very elegant way. It also has a unique artistic style that fits the vibe perfectly.

You can’t go wrong with SUPERHOT VR. It’s available on both Steam and the Oculus store.

If tabletop games are more your thing and you’ve always wanted your D&D game to come to life before your eyes, then DEMEO is the game for you. With 3 full campaigns and 2 more coming in 2022, you can certainly sink loads of hours playing with up to 3 friends. It’s a great experience that we keep going back to! If you like a challenge this game does not disappoint. It took many attempts for our group of friends to beat the first campaign “The Black Sarcophagus”. They also released a PC version of the game recently that allows you to play with folks who aren’t sporting a VR headset. We’re big fans of Resolution games. Their stuff is always so polished and DEMEO is definitely worthy of being the first VR game you should buy.

Available on both Oculus and Steam, with crossplay support. Check out their Post-Launch 2022 Roadmap!

4) Red Matter

Red Matter is a fantastic, immersive, and downright spooky experience. With amazing graphics, this atmospheric sci-fi puzzle-solving game will make the hair on the back of your neck stand straight up. It’s not horror scary though, so don’t be alarmed if you don’t do scary games very well. It just does such a great job of placing you in the world and just hits all the right notes of suspense. Set on one of the moons of Saturn, this dystopian story-driven game is a great first VR game to buy. Especially if you love a good mystery.

There’s also a sequel that was just announced at the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase. We covered all of the upcoming games if you want to see what else is coming out.

Available on both Steam and the Oculus store. Check out, Red Matter. You won’t regret it.

5) I Expect You to Die (1&2)

This fun and quirky series place you as a spy that needs to get yourself out of some tight situations. It’s also a great first VR game you should buy if you’re looking for a great seated experience. There’s even a sequel! We recommend you start with the first one because you can often find it on sale for a great deal. If you’re the type of person who loves escape rooms and solving puzzles, you’ll fall in love with I Expect You to Die. The game is also incredibly funny.

Check out the trailer for I Expect you to Die. We’ll also put up the trailer here for the sequel. You really can’t go wrong with either.

You can find them both on Steam and the Oculus store

There you have it, our list of the first VR games you should buy! All of these games are worth picking up and adding to your collection!

See you in VR, Champions.
