Meta opened its first brick-and-mortar store on Monday to showcase what it believes is the future of its company. The 1,550 square-foot Meta Store is for those interested in trying out interactive demos and getting some hands-on experience with some of the company’s latest and most innovative tech, namely the Portal video chatting devices, Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses, and the Quest 2 VR headset. These three pillars of products can be seen prominently and beautifully displayed on what looks to be mid-century modern light wood shelves throughout the store.

“WE BUILT THE STORE TO FEEL LIKE HOME, TO FEEL LIKE WORK, SO THAT YOU COULD ACTUALLY EASILY APPLY HOW THIS EXPERIENCE TRANSLATES INTO HOW TO ACTUALLY USE IT IN THE REAL WORLD,”

Martin Gilliard, Head of Meta Store

With the Metaverse clearly in its sights, the first pillar of products is the emphasis on the Virtual Reality area of the store and the space dedicated specifically to the Meta Quest 2. It is perhaps the most vital for what the company is trying to achieve in terms of mass adoption into the realm of virtual reality. Customers can come and try out first-hand the virtual reality headset and play games such as Beat Saber, Supernatural, or other titles while those you dragged along with you to the store such as friends or family can watch on a large curved display.

Meta’s second pillar of products within their store is the Ray-Ban Stories. These are stylish and thin smart glasses that capture photos and videos to share on social platforms.

And lastly, the third pillar is the Portal line of products, a video communications device that the company is pushing as a new solution for those working-from-home and families that are looking to stay in touch. The store has set up beautiful soundproof booths to fully experience the quality of the speakers and video.

Starting on May 9th, 2022, the store’s hours will be set to Monday through Friday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM PT. It’s located at 322 Airport Blvd in Burlingame, California in the Bay Area. For those unaware, this is directly next door to Meta’s Reality Labs location. You’ll be able to purchase Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 2 accessories, and Meta Portal devices. If you’re interested in purchasing Ray-Ban Stories, a Meta retail employee is there to help you order them directly from the Ray-Ban website.
