When RUINSMAGUS by developer CharacterBank appeared on the Meta Gaming Showcase back in April, it caught me a bit by surprise. It was on Kickstarter last year, and while the game looked great, you never really know what to expect with a Kickstarter anymore. If I’m being honest, it sorta fell off my radar.
But when the trailer rolled, I couldn’t help but smile. It looked absolutely gorgeous.

Like lots of you, some of my fondest gaming memories are from the JRPG adventures we played as kids and RUINSMAGUS’s trailer hits the nail right on the head. While there’s no shortage of VR action games, FPS games, or rhythm games. There isn’t a game that’s filled the JRPG void.
I want to play a game in VR that takes me away to a whole new world, just like some of the old Final Fantasy games did, or the Star Ocean series. RUINSMAGUS looks vibrant and detailed. The characters seem fleshed out and unique. — Did we mention it looks gorgeous? I love the anime style they’re going for. Everything looks colorful and fun.
I want to go on a magical adventure to thwart the evil that’s set out to cover the world in darkness! Let’s just hope there’s a logout button.

In RUINSMAGUS you’ll become a member of the renowned RUINSMAGUS Guild, where it’s your job to venture into magical ruins and face off against guardians tasked with protecting the ruins from intruders. You’ll be armed with a shield in one hand and cast spells with the other.
Hopefully, RUINSMAGUS will be the VRJRPG we’ve been waiting for! It’s set to release sometime this year on STEAM and on Quest 2.
