Vertical Robot’s Red Matter set the bar for Quest 2 graphics. To this day it’s one of the best-looking games available, if not the best. It looks like the upcoming sequel aims to deliver even further. The latest Technical showcase unveils some upcoming features for the game and teases us with incredible graphics.

Upcoming features include:

  • High-Quality Fog and Sun Reflections
  • Particle Reflections
  • Multiple Point Lights
  • Volumetric Light Cones
  • Optimized Metahumans
  • High-Quality Glass
  • Sphere Soft Shadows
  • Raytraced Line Reflections
  • Raytraced Quad Reflections
  • Glass Refraction
  • Parallax Corrected Reflections & Filmic Tonemapper

How Vertical Robot is able to achieve this is nothing short of a miracle. At the beginning of the Technical Showcase, they explain that Red Matter 2 will run on a “Heavily Modified Version Unreal Engine”.

Red Matter 2 will no doubt elevate the standard for graphics on the Quest 2 platform and demonstrates what can be done with talented optimization. We’re incredibly excited to play the sequel to one of our favorite games.

We ranked the first Red Matter as one of the first games you should buy for VR.
