You’ve heard of Room Scale, but what about House Scale?

House Defender is the first of four projects to be released by 2Sync, a small team working to mesh the real world with the virtual. It’s a game that turns your home, furniture and all, into a procedurally generated world you need to defend.

Sounds cool? That’s because it is.

Setting it up is easy too. You scan your environment with your controllers, and before you know it, you’re fighting off swarms of baddies trying to make their way into your living room. House Scale has some pretty obvious benefits too. For one, you’re not going to be subject to any motion sickness if you’re just walking around normally, which 2Sync thinks will lead to a higher adoption rate for VR. It also lets you interact with VR in a whole new way — using your real-world environment.

House Defender also supports multiplayer and co-op. So you and your friends can get together to fight off hoards of enemies, while both holding the fort down on opposite corners of your kitchen.

What makes House Defender possible?

House Scale is made possible by 2Sync’s in-house SDK (Software development kit). What started off as a research project at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Germany is now well into its alpha stage.

What can 2Sync SDK do?

  • Rule-based mapping between virtual and real objects considering complex relationships, transformation dependencies, and material properties.
  • Gives the possibility to create your own procedural generatable content given a set of build constructions.
  • Simulate your virtual designs in various real-world rooms.
  • Registration and calibration of multiple users in the environment.
  • Easy way to scan the user’s environment.
  • Real-time generation of the procedural generated virtual worlds.

If you want to learn more about 2Sync or you’re a developer that’s interested in working with 2Sync you can visit their SDK website.

House Defender is currently available on Applab for $9.99 USD.
